First topic message reminder :
So, I made this thread just so we can all discuss the differences of these two completly different boards!
Just so we all know, the same rules apply here as the rest of the board, even if they like the board we don't use.

I stand firm on my word that template editing isn't needed phpbb3.
As much as it would be a bonus, it was also be a downfall.
Javascript can make a board do anything...

Yeah, Javascript can make a forum do a lot of stuff but the problem is, if you have to have soooo many different javascript files to change parts of the forum it starts to affect the performance of the forum, especially loading times.
I would rather shrink image files, adjust templates and css than add large amounts of javascript just to get the effect I want.

Not necessarily. Before I moved most of my javascript to my external server, I had it all in one file in JS Management. So one or two files is only needed.
And also, javascript doesn't affect performance as much as people think... only poorly thought out or poorly written javascript does. Really, having more HTML for a browser to download can cause worse loading times.
My FM forum Avacweb probably has the most Javascript any FM forum does, but the loading is fine. Especially my topic pages... man there's loads of JS to create those posts on a phpbb3 board, not to mention my several features which are the most advanced on FM
My point is, it comes down to what Javascript.
